Located in Yamanaka-Onsen, Kaga city of Ishikawa prefecture, Yamanaka lacquerware (Shikki 漆器) has been manufactured from the late 16th century. Since then, Yamanaka Shikki has been especially famous for its superb quality of hand wood carving using the lathe.
With the use of age-dried local wood, every item is designed to the thinnest balance of use and weight in the sharp modern form. Each piece is coated with natural urushi lacquer with fuki-urushi method that preserves the look of the wood grain by giving it a durable surface.
